Book Eyes and Minds
The sculpture of spectacles rides again, along with some of Amy's photographs of libraries around the world, on display at the Ballarat Library for the month of October.
As an accompaniment, here is a film that combines some of Amy's reader images with those collected from others during the Backspace show. The audio comes from interviews with local readers, librarians, and booksellers about their relationship with books and reading. Thanks again to all supporters in this project including Ballarat Library and City of Ballarat, Yum Studio, and UB's Centre for eCommerce and Communications.
Enjoy!

Winged Things
The aim of Weave Length since we began in 2009 has been to create 'winged things,' weaving together elements, people, and ideas so that they might lead to other things, things that fly.
Here is a very short film - a sense of some of the elements of Amy's recent work The Space Between. The soundscape features Amy playing with the ruined pianos of Tuerong, notes and bones in their own space between.
Hope you enjoy it. Hope it might, ever so briefly, help your mind take flight...

Amy will share what has been collected during the show, including images of people enjoying the space, favourite books and reading memories, gathered images from the online galaxy of readers, and a draft of the special inscription collection book titled 'Inscriptions in the Space Between' in collaboration with mentor Barry Wemyss. There will also be some live music and sushi so come and enjoy! The exhibition will close officially at 4pm on Sunday.

Week Two in the Space Between!
Backspace Gallery is nestled behind the Art Gallery of Ballarat in Huyghue House, entered by Camp St or down Police Lane from Lydiard St, and is run by the City of Ballarat Arts and Culture Unit.
Big thanks to all who have visited and contributed to Amy's current exhibition The Space Between so far: an invitation for people of all ages to come and explore the world of books and reading!
The past week
has seen fabulous free sessions offered to the public from bookbinder and
restorer Sonya Macdonald of Sago on Tuesdays Bindery and multimedia
extraordinaire Erin McCuskey from Yum Studio.
Local artist Barry Wemyss’s book
art workshops have also proved popular and are now booked out, but there is
still lots to do and see as part of this exciting exhibition.
The Ballarat Library Outreach van will visit again on Thursday morning 9am to midday and
Friday morning storytime at 11am will feature the classic book The Very Hungry
Caterpillar after last week’s fun with Where the Wild Things Are.
Barry and Amy
will continue work on the Inscription Collection, inviting visitors to bring in
books with their favourite book inscriptions to be copied and added to a
special artist book. Book lovers near and far can also contribute to an online
galaxy of readers, with pictures already coming through from Sweden, India, UK,
and around Australia. More details here
An informal
celebration will take place at midday on Saturday 27th. All welcome,
BYO lunch and check out what has been gathered and created throughout the
exhibition.
The project has
been described as “warm, human, and unpretentious” by local poet Barry Breen,
and enjoyed by Louise Jones from ‘Learning that’s Fun’ noting that “there is so much to see, touch and be a part of. It was
literally a case of the more laps I did, the more I found.”
Come and join
the bookish fun! Artworks by Amy Tsilemanis can also be purchased and donations
made to the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation (ALNF).

Look out for an exciting new exhibition project happening next month in Ballarat! Through visual art, sound, and interactive elements, this show will explore how books and knowledge are being experienced, stored, and shared amid technological advancements. Part love letter to books, part inquiry into the possibilities of digital, people can get involved with workshops, talks, a pop up library, and evolving artworks in both paper and digital forms. Check out the new page collecting images of people around the world reading and more on the rest soon!

Here's To a New Year of Creative Adventures
A very happy 2013 to you all out there! Lots of exciting creative things are in mix with the Weave Lengthers including Abbie undertaking an artist residency in Bali and Amy contributing to the brand new Central Highlands ArtsAtlas (not quite as glamorous as Bali but it is very hot in Ballarat town this week!)
And stay tuned for an exciting new exhibition installation drawing on Amy's love of books, and ideas around knowledge and archives.
